One common problem with sandschools can be subsidence caused by insufficient edging. The banks or edges surround the sand school. You need drainage gullies to take rain water away from the sandschool into soakaways but the edging of the sandschool needs to be substantial enough to prevent collapsing of the banks.

On the stable side this is generally provided by a concrete pathway or parade. On other side, depending on the lye of the land, the drainage channels take the surface water away from the sandschool surface and into soakaways or drainage ditches.
